same sensor, Id buy the nikon, but i absolutely hate that it doesnt have a normal drive motor for all the lenses I already have... get the D80

depends on how many lenses you already have I guess....either one is great, congrats!

I would personally go with the Nikon. After working at wolf camera for the past year ive played with them all, and not that the Sony is bad, It just doesnt seem go be going anywhere anytime soon meaning, new better things coming out for it... plus the lenses are expensive. The sony rep came into the store and told us that the new prototypes will be out pretty soon. more along the lines of a D200 and a D2x equivalents. but im sure they will cost an arm and a leg. blah. I say go with the D80 if you can wing it. its almost like a baby D200. Not a fan of the D40x mostly b/c of the absence of the autofocus drive in the body, which makes buying other lenses more expensive. anyways, good luck!
